photos from my weekend.
Snowtober is what they are calling it. The freak storm that pummeled us, ruined halloween, canceled schools, took out almost everyone's power and postponed trick or treating until friday in these parts of jersey. We bundled up, watched the snow fall, trees snap, sipped hot cocoa and made a little ghost craft I think we will remember and cherish for (hopefully warmer) halloweens to come.
Happy Halloween!

found friday: vintage botany prints
Lovely vintage flower plates from the etsy store shaving kit supplies. The vintage botany prints are from an old book of floral studies. Shown above, gentian, scabious and mistletoe $8 each. These would look so fabulous framed and hanging together.
I hope you enjoy your weekend!

garden plans
Have you ever planned a garden out? I mean really plan it, with a sketched layout picking out specific plants or laying out your vegetable garden?
This is my first year with a yard of my own with space to grow a garden and sew some seeds. Very exciting. I did not design a garden plan this year but as I was planting up some marigolds next to my veggie box, I was dreaming of the day when I can plan out an elaborate garden and spend hours in it. Until then here are some inspiring images from a vintage home garden book I have:
I love elaborate garden design layouts. I think they are artistic to look at with all of the geometric shapes and curves. I enjoyed taking landscape design while studying horticulture in college. It actually made me feel able to finally draw something artistic!
some basic landscape design shapes so you can get started!
monday morning mugs
le Vintage Maison has a beautiful collection of floral-y mugs going on in her shop, many of which are Japanese. Check out her vintage shop here. I hope you had a happy weekend. I enjoyed getting ready for our vegetable garden by buying wood to make a raised bed!
DIY: vintage fabric holiday wreath
this little holiday craft is sooo simple, cheap and fun to make!
what you'll need:
fabric- about a yard. Mine is a vintage green handmade thrifted table cloth with laced edges. It was $3.
There are so many options to use, and the fabric you choose will determine the look. I found some old plaid flannel shirts that would make a great holiday wreath with a totally different feel.
foam wreath- any craft store. I used a 16 inch and got it from michaels with the 40% off coupon.
quilt batting- not totally necessary but softens the foam wreath and makes it a little more plush.
paper and felt- for making the fan flowers
glue gun and scissors.
To start:
wrap a portion of the foam wreath with the quilt batting. Next, cut long strips at your desired width. Then simply tie them each strip on the wreath with a knot. Double knot some for a varied look.
it helped me to put a piece of fabric on top of the wreath to cover the batting when you tie the knot or bits of white will show at the knot.
continue knotting the whole wreath or leave a space (like above) if you wish to add a little embellishment.
to create the fan flowers, I used paper from an old vintage book and folded them back and forth like an accordion. Then I folded the accordion in half and glued it. I then made an identical accordion and glue them together to form the flower. You can cut your paper in different lengths for different size flowers.
lastly, I cut felt circles and then snipped away at them, glued them with some added lace and added them to the center of the fan flower. Glue the fan flowers to your wreath and add some extra glitz if you wish!

thanksgiving week wishes
I have a thing for antique postcards. Especially ones that have written messages from a different life time.

To: Miss E Halkin. Have not forgotten you. Will write you in a few days. With love, Sincerely, E. N. -1908
and two from the apparently humorous Mrs Davis:
Save the drum stick for me. Mrs Davis- 1908

Did your corn equal this? Mrs Davis. Hurrah for Taft!!!
(Taft had just won the 1908 presidential election).
from NYPL. For many more postcards, just search thanksgiving.

vintage flower kenzans
picture perfect ikebana kenzans -flower frogs- from vintage shop ethanollie. I love the usage of vintage floral kenzans for organic displays. I'm drooling over the last one, so unique! For more about Japanese ikebana go here.
moss comfort garden
If you like moss, think you'll like the new designs I have been working on. Moss comfort garden. Each are designed with preserved moss and faux moss cobbles nestled into a vintage leaf shaped wooden bowl. Remember the post of my vintage wooden bowl collection? This is what I've made with them! They are now available here in the shop.
vintage collections
I have this thing for vintage wooden bowls. I have a passion for collecting them, but at the same time, I hate clutter. I love that I can create a design in it and away they go until I collect more. The same thing goes for milk glass. These are my current collections awaiting for designs to go in them for sale! As the summer is now slowing down for me, I hope to get creative and fill the shop with some new designs and have a summer giveaway!
My favorite milk glass design of all time that I just cant seem to part with is this vintage FTD Design from the 70's. I have seen it in different shapes and I love the raised leaf texture!
I hope that you enjoy your long weekend. Happy 4th of July!

Today is the summer solstice. Are you doing anything fun to celebrate the first day of summer? I think we are heading out to pick some blueberries :)
