A visit to Terrain

I've been wanting to visit Terrain the store in Glenn Mills, PA since I've come across it on-line a few years back. Their online gardening and floral merchandise is impeccable, I mean right up my gardening/ flower alley. Not to mention that it is from the same company as Anthropologie so I had high expectations as I headed there with my friend Julie as we were in Philly for the day.  Let me tell you, my expectations were met, and then some!

A wall of mounted staghorn ferns as soon as we walked in!? I was hooked right away.

They had all sorts of small plants to choose from, along with an array of vessels and vases to create your own terrarium:
I have the same chairs but in white! Seeing them in here made me relax a little bit from the chance I took buying them last summer, few!! Now I just need an old farmhouse table like that one ;)
 Julie looking at some magazines
Plants were everywhere, all different kinds of houseplants inside to choose from. Not to mention the outdoor garden center full of annuals and perennials. Everywhere I turned their artistic displays were inspiring.
They have a garden cafe that is nestled into an old greenhouse that boasts of using seasonal local hand selected meats, produce and dairy products. We did not have time to stop and enjoy it, but all the more reason for me to go back.

There was a small wedding taking place as we were there. What a lovely location that would be! I was like a little kid in a candy shop at Terrain, I  knew it would be worth the little treck out to it and I was right. It is now officially my favorite store I've ever been. No joke! I highly recommend a visit and I can't wait to go back during a different season to see their displays and ingenuity.

a flores del sol and anthropologie event!

I have some big and exciting news to share today, I will be hosting a Mother's Day DIY event with Anthropologie! It will be held at their Montclair, New Jersey location on May 9th. It is free, but spaces are limited so sign up quick! We will be making dried floral corsages just in time for mother's day. Please come, I'd love to meet you!

found friday: the house that lars built

language of flowers tea towel, language of flowers oven mitt and oversized huge paper flower bouquet by etsy store The House That Lars Built.

The pattern of the tea towel and oven mitt "records a love poem written by a boy to a girl in the "language of flowers", the Victorian-era means of communication in which various flowers and floral arrangements were used to send coded messages, allowing individuals to express feelings which otherwise could not be spoken. Starting with the left side of the wreath to the right side, each flower reveals one more part of the missing puzzle. Included in the poem are amaranth globes, black eyed susans, daisies, poppies, dandelions, tulips, morning glories, roses, magnolias, laurel leaves, laurestine, forget-me-nots, honeysuckle."

for more on the language of flowers check here.

Happy fin de semana :)

inspiration: Clare Elsaesser

a little valentine art I found when Clare from tastesorangy made a purchase from my shop. Her work is superb. It brings on feelings of nostalgia from my own romance. I adore how the red flowers in this bottom piece, honeymoon, look like hearts. Do you make big plans for valentines or are you more of a celebrate our love all year type? I undoubtedly will be working and my hands will be sore from all the thorny roses that will pass through them. Felipe and I usually end up celebrating valentine's the weekend before or after due to it.

check out this yucca piece she's made and this succulent too. im a sucker for a succulent.

found friday: britt hermann

unique and dainty, I love the work of britt hermann. Her floral bands remind me of designing floral crowns. During the process you create a long band of flowers and then tie the ends together to make a crown. I love how her art has a vintage feel but at the same time, charming and fresh. A look that's hard to master.

Find her work at her etsy shop here.

found friday: hanging wall pods

Porcelain pod wall vases by etsy artist Wendy Jung. Simple, pure and elegant. I would love to have a cluster of these displayed on my wall with a few of my dried flowers poking out.

Feliz fin de semana! -christina

rifle paper company

Rifle Paper Co. calling cards and heirloom recipe card boxes. The recipe boxes are made from salvaged wood that was destined for landfills. In a day of mass production and gift registries, what a thoughtful and timeless wedding gift these boxes would be!

post road vintage

I have come across a lovely vintage etsy shop Post Road Vintage. Heather Anderson salvages things like old trim boards, antique mason jars and vintage plates into unique home decor items. Have a look here at her shop. Oh and the last wall organizer is a giveaway on her blog! Hurry, it ends tomorrow!
Today is the summer solstice. Are you doing anything fun to celebrate the first day of summer? I think we are heading out to pick some blueberries :)

string gardens

Art and urban gardening at its finest! Amsterdam horticulturist Fedor has created string gardens by designing root balls made of string, moss, dirt, grass and seeds in the Japanese botanical style fashion, kokedama. As the plants flourish, he balances them upright with string. His how to secrets are left to the imagination and the web site is mostly in dutch but worth a green while browsing here.
I have become a facebook fan and I must say, its the best thing that pops up on my feed!

stunning. What a fabulous shop window this would make :)
