moss comfort garden

If you like moss, think you'll like the new designs I have been working on. Moss comfort garden. Each are designed with preserved moss and faux moss cobbles nestled into a vintage leaf shaped wooden bowl. Remember the post of my vintage wooden bowl collection? This is what I've made with them! They are now available here in the shop.

wallflowers

I have a sister. Well actually I have 4 sisters. But this one sister wont get off my wavelength. Even though she lives thousands of miles away from me, for some reason it's still working. I've been saving this fabulous wall flower photo I found via Oh, Hello Friend Blog. Low and behold my sister posts the same photo she found on a different blog for my enjoyment on floresdelsol's facebook page. It made my day. It was actually the second telepathic occurrence of the week. Oh and my sister is an amazing photographer. She just gave up her job teaching high school digital photography in California to let her hubby finish his schooling in Utah. Her blog is here.

How about you? Do you have any sibling telepathic powers?

ps-- Flores del sol is now on facebook! You can like it here. And please feel free to liven up the page by posting cool inspiring photos like this one!

new in shop

I am trying my best to get some new things in the shop! I will be making more today, but here are two from this past week, moss cluster no. 34 and raspberry garden which is made out of preserved raspberry cockscomb. A textural bliss!

rifle paper company

Rifle Paper Co. calling cards and heirloom recipe card boxes. The recipe boxes are made from salvaged wood that was destined for landfills. In a day of mass production and gift registries, what a thoughtful and timeless wedding gift these boxes would be!

summer container plantings

a few photos from this 2010 summer Fresh Art Planting season:
the fuchsia bougainvillea topiaries and trellises were beautiful this year, pictured above and below.

I love using the deep plum and variegated green wandering Jew plant. I have only ever seen wandering Jew as an indoor plant. Apparently they do mighty well in a container garden! Mine is thriving on my window sill. Being pleasantly surprised is wonderful when trying out new plants. Or disappointed... like the pink shasta daisies we gambled on that died in every container we placed them in. They all had to be replaced. Over 20 plants. Yikes!

for more Fresh Art Plantings go here. We design container plantings in Short Hills, Millburn, Summit and the surrounding New Jersey areas for spring, summer, fall and winter.

flower heads

I'm in love with fresh flower headpieces. They really are a work of art. Did you know that there is a career in fashion floral props? Check out Livia Cetti of the Green Vase's portfolio or mushubi a japanese art stylist. It looks like such a fun career, no?

moss walls

Something about this heat wave in the North East has made be sluggish and running to the pool everyday with my little girls to cool off . It's also my excuse for the lack of a posts this week. It's just too hot around these parts! Here is some calming moss eye candy I fully enjoyed:
The veins of dried moss are designed by Asami Kiyokawa a famous Japanese artist for Oki Sato of Nendo. The moss texture forms a 3 dimensional wallpaper look while incorporating the mossy textures from their outdoor environment to the indoor without the little critters, mold and browning. The dried moss pattern is meticulously done and neither fully natural nor artificial... a lot like the preserved moss designs I create in my shop!

vintage collections

I have this thing for vintage wooden bowls. I have a passion for collecting them, but at the same time, I hate clutter. I love that I can create a design in it and away they go until I collect more. The same thing goes for milk glass. These are my current collections awaiting for designs to go in them for sale! As the summer is now slowing down for me, I hope to get creative and fill the shop with some new designs and have a summer giveaway!

My favorite milk glass design of all time that I just cant seem to part with is this vintage FTD Design from the 70's. I have seen it in different shapes and I love the raised leaf texture!

I hope that you enjoy your long weekend. Happy 4th of July!
